Pottery in the Yard is a new pottery studio nestled amongst beautiful old trees,

created by ceramicist Violet Shaw.

With the help of husband Gareth, and daughter Fern, an old barn has been lovingly renovated to offer a nurturing and peaceful space for classes and memberships, as well as being the base for Violet’s own practice, @VioletShawPottery.

Having grown up in Cambridgeshire living above her family’s studio and shop, Soham Pottery, Violet’s deep connection with the craft goes right the way back to childhood. Beginning as the studio sidekick to her father Peter in the mid 90s, Violet then went on to study ceramics after school at college.

In the years since, Violet has taught hundreds of pottery classes, ran a ceramic studio, passed Cordon Bleu in London and even opened a pub! Alongside all of this, she has also grown and nurtured a thriving creative practice of her own based out of her home studio in Margate.

Opening its doors in November 2025, Pottery in the Yard is the next iteration of Violet’s creative journey in ceramics. Offering a space for others to learn and thrive, and a calm retreat set amongst nature, she couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead!
