Had a nice rainy day at the studio, preparing pots for Saturday and Sundays "make a pair of mugs" workshops.

Everyone will get a turn on the wheel throwing a mug shape, trimming one of these I've made today and then making some handles! It'll be a full on but fun workshop, designed for even beginners to come away with mugs to be proud of ☕

There's one spot left for Saturday if you fancy joining, link in bio ❤️

Perfect walk this morning to the studio through a misty Quex grounds.
Dropped the little at forest school for her 3rd settle session, had a whole hour to myself to solve a little kiln malfunction with the help and emotional support of Spike from @beardedpigforge
Thankfully I think we solved it! Go team! And the little enjoyed her hour at nursery 🎉

Chilly but beautiful day under the old oak tree next to the studio. There's plans a foot for this area behind us being developed by the Quex team, not entirely sure what they are yet but we are definitely getting a car park... woohoo! This will make it much easier for classes, particularly in these dark evenings.

We met some more lovely neighbours @thanetarchaeology today, where we hope to collaborate on some workshops in 2026.

In 2009 we (Violet and Gareth) both earned a 2:1 in Marine Archaeology at Bournemouth University. Violet's dissertation was written on the material observation of Roman pottery at a site in Hampshire.
We are thrilled at the thought of finally bringing the two things together... It seems serendipitous that they should be our neighbours!

The images show their Roman Garden, Hortus Romanus completed in 2020 (hence the numerals), some of their finds and their outdoor bread oven.

They have these really interesting pottery learning packs with real pottery sherds from the Iron Age all the way to the Late Post- Medieval period. Get your hands on one of those through their website!

Exciting times ahead!
