Service Description

Take the mystery out of kiln firing in this practical, hands-on workshop designed for beginners and new kiln owners. Over the 2.5 hours, you’ll learn how to choose the right kiln, protect shelves and furniture, load work correctly, and fire safely and effectively. We’ll cover bisque and glaze firings, digital controller basics, ramps and soak times, plus how to use pyrometric cones to understand heatwork properly. You’ll gain hands-on experience loading our 60L Rohde kiln and see real demonstrations of batt wash application, stacking techniques, airflow management, and safe cooling procedures. Perfect for hobby potters, studio members, or anyone considering purchasing a kiln, this session will leave you feeling confident, informed, and ready to fire independently. Includes a take-home resource sheet with firing schedules and essential safety guidance... and of course tea, coffee and biscuits!
